Statistics gathered for over 20 years indicate that children account for 70% of all dog bite victims. 77% of these bites occur on the face, which represents 44,000 injuries a year. The median age of these children was 15 years old, and most of the time (77%) the dog belongs to the family or friend. In fact, in victims younger than four years, the family dog is responsible 50% of the time. These sad statistics have been on the rise for the last few years, and do not show any signs of diminishing.
